Great condition, shipped within a reasonable time. Record came quickly and is in great condition, will buy from again! The record sounds good and I am satisfied. The product was packaged great, the record even came with decals from the company, which is smart advertising. I've been looking for this record for a very long time so I was excited to see someone actually selling it. So cool, amazing that they're able to make it such high quality Came quickly, plays wonderfully, just buy it. The cover was a little dark but over all great quality. Posted by Azariah Quintana on Apr 26th 2021 Love this album sounds even better on vinyl. So worth it, it sounds beautiful will have you creaming 10/10 recommend. Like the rest of Nostalgia, it's dark, playful, a little tasteless, and absolutely riveting. Sampling world-class sulkers like Coldplay and Radiohead, as well as Stanley Kubrick's queasy dissection of marriage, Eyes Wide Shut, Ocean saves his boldest move for the 7-minute epic "American Wedding," fantasizing about his nuptials as the ultimate hymn of coke-addled self-absorption, The Eagles' "Hotel California," plays out in its entirety. Ocean presents himself as a troubled guy in his early 20s who does cocaine for breakfast (as he sings over an aestheticized shuffle supplied by superstar producer Tricky Stewart on "Novacane") and can't decide whether to rue or revel in his conflicted feelings about women (the hit-single-in-waiting "Songs For Women"). Nostalgia is a moody, frequently downbeat character study, a sort of musical version of the Reagan-era confessional Less Than Zero. Hearing the record, it's no shock that Ocean's label didn't know what to do with him.

But after going nowhere as a solo artist signed to Island Def Jam, Ocean decided to post Nostalgia, Ultra as a free download last month. That doesn't jibe with his resume, a seemingly impeccable combination of mainstream R&B credentials (he's co-written songs for John Legend and Justin Bieber) and underground cool (he's associated with outlaw hip-hop collective Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All). The record stands as the most shocking thing the Odd Future collective has put out to date: a R&B record with crossover potential without sacrificing soul that creates a complete picture of its author, warts and all.Unofficial import, sealed and on gorgeous reddish-orange vinyl that matches the M3 on the cover - "Much like the '80s BMW on the cover of his debut album, Nostalgia, Ultra, gifted singer-songwriter Frank Ocean apparently is out of touch with the times. Nostalgia, Ultra has more than enough good stuff to establish Ocean as an artist to watch. It’s an interesting idea, but one that comes closer to bad karaoke than the statement it’s trying to be. American Wedding is another lazy track that finds Ocean re-writing the words to Hotel California by the Eagles. The electronic bump of There Will be Tears, is a misstep: a story about Ocean dealing with loss of a father figure would make for a compelling-ass song if it were focused more on the words than with fucking around behind the board. The heart-on-sleeve look doesn’t always work for Ocean. His best songs are the ones in which he isn’t the hero, like the aforementioned Novocain or the lovesick Songs 4 Women, a track where he confesses that, yes, he sings to get girls before getting rejected by a women for Drake, of all people. Ocean isn’t afraid to come off as scared or confused or hurt, projecting a character that is much more nuanced than the average lothario found on a Trey Songz record. Sure, he’s using it there as a metaphor for a drug-heavy relationship going south, but the idea of uncut emotion runs rampant throughout the record. Ocean, in fact, comes out against studio magic on Novocain, the tape’s best track: “Every single record / auto tuning / zero emotion / muted emotion / pitch corrected.” Though there are signs of compression on his record, Frank Ocean never gets that digital on Nostalgia, Ultra, his debut mix tape as part of the Odd Future collective. If it is anything like his last full album, Thank Me Later, that’s going to mean a whole shit load of auto tune. Frank Ocean Nostalgia, Ultra (Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill 'Em All)ĭrake is rumored to be putting out an R&B album sometime in the next few years.
